La Nuestra Cerámica: A Shared Practice in Clay

La Nuestra Cerámica is the collaborative practice of Barcelona-based ceramicists Malena Ramírez and Irati Bustinduy. The two have worked together since 2021, each contributing distinct artistic experiences that mix in perfectly with their preferred clay media.
Their diverse aesthetics come together in ceramics, allowing them to start a collaborative venture centered on cooperation, creativity, and a common passion in the medium.
At first, their work focused on creating wheel-shaped utilitarian things, giving priority to commonplace goods meant for everyday usage.
Their designs gradually evolved into larger, more sculptural pieces throughout time, such as lighting fixtures and vases. While maintaining the same degree of commitment and proficiency that has always been essential to their work, this slow development has inspired them to experiment with a range of sizes, forms, and interactions with the surrounding area.
They have constantly experimented with different sorts, textures, and surface finishes of clay along their journey. What began with muted colors and smooth surfaces has developed into an ongoing pursuit of color, glossy glazes, and more intricate material expressions.
This research approach, where technical innovation blends with aesthetic refinement, is embodied in every new collection, allowing their work to evolve organically over time.
Every piece is made in Barcelona, where they work directly with independent workshops and local vendors. They use a working style that stresses intimacy, collaboration, and a close relationship with the local creative community by keeping their manufacturing close to the people and processes involved in producing each piece.
La Nuestra Cerámica produces bespoke ceramic tableware for restaurants in addition to their own ranges. Every project starts with a conversation, and each collection is customized to the personality, needs, and everyday activities of the surroundings for which it is intended.
These collaborations result in unique creations that specifically address each project while offering an opportunity to continue investigating novel approaches, improving their processes, and learning new ways to work with ceramics.
